If you are a foreigner working in China, your home country may ask for your Chinese Tax ID (known as the Taxpayer Identification Number, or TIN) when you file your global income tax return.
So, how do you find it? Here is a simple, action-oriented guide.
Your employer in China already has your Tax ID in their payroll system. Here is exactly what to ask them to do:
1. Log into the company’s Individual Income Tax (IIT) withholding system (called 【自然人稅收管理系統扣繳客戶端】).That number is your Chinese Tax ID.
If your employer cannot find it, you can go directly to your local Tax Service Hall (稅務局 ). Commonly bring:
1. Your original passport (the same one you used to register for work in China).A tax officer can look up your Tax ID in the system for you.
2. Does my Tax ID ever change?
Usually, no. However, if your passport number changes, your Tax ID may also change. Always update your new passport with your employer and the tax bureau.
3. What if no one can find it?
This likely means you have never filed a personal income tax return in China.|
